Star Trek 2025: Beam Us Up Before It All Ends

It’s a big year in the Star Trek universe—by which we mean, a lot is ending, being rebooted, or dragged kicking and screaming into weird spin-offs nobody asked for (but we’re watching anyway).

First up: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the prequel series that somehow made Captain Pike hotter than Kirk, is officially wrapping after season five. But wait—Paramount+ has decided that final season will only be six episodes long, because why finish strong when you can finish… economically?

Season three lands July 17, and production is underway on season four. So yes, the show is technically still alive, but let’s just say the countdown to spacedust has begun.

In other news, Michelle Yeoh finally got her Star Trek movie—Section 31, a streaming film that asks: What if Starfleet had a dark ops unit, and we let an Oscar winner handle it? It dropped in January, and while the jury's out on whether it’s prestige Trek or just space noir fan service, at least it’s something new.

Speaking of new, Starfleet Academy is in post-production, taking us to the 32nd century (because nothing says "fresh ideas" like jumping 1,000 years into the future). Paul Giamatti plays a villain, which honestly makes this one worth watching just to see what kind of intergalactic nonsense he's cooking up.

But perhaps the most unexpected Trek news of the year? William Shatner is teaming up with Neil deGrasse Tyson for a live event called The Universe Is Absurd. It's part lecture, part stand-up, and all ego. No word yet on whether the transporter room will beam them both out mid-show.

Also coming soon: a Khan audio drama. Yes, you read that right. Nine episodes of genetically enhanced monologuing, straight to your earbuds.

In short, Star Trek in 2025 is a chaotic blend of farewells, spin-offs, nostalgia, and unexpected science comedy. But let’s be real—we’re still going to watch every warp-speed minute of it.
