Jovi Skyler's Sophomore Album Release
by Hella Cliques October 18, 2026
Jovi Skyler is an independent, Sydney-based grunge-punk singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Operating as a "lone wolf" DIY artist, he largely writes his own material, self-produces his tracks in a basement studio, and crafts his own visual media.
His sophomore album, Unpopular, is a 10-track collection rooted heavily in dirty 1990s grunge, punk rock, and subtle psychedelic twists. The record balances raw rage, social commentary, and emotional vulnerability with unexpected melodic elements. Tracks like the opening single "Dead Rockstars" attack the commercialization of modern culture with heavy distortion and biting lyrical wit, while other songs range from frantic, up-tempo punk-pop pacing ("Lazy Daze") to moody, atmospheric soundscapes ("Shame" and "Night Time Is My Time"). Overall, the record captures a modern-meets-retro alternative rock style built on grit, noise, and authenticity.
Skyler recruited legendary Seattle producer and engineer Jack Endino—often hailed as the "Godfather of Grunge" for his foundational work with defining 90s bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Mudhoney—to master Unpopular. Endino was brought on to lend his authentic sonic touch and mixing pedigree to Skyler's modern-day continuation of the classic Seattle-sound aesthetic.
