A Very Un-Happy Hour: The Great Axe-Handle Kerfuffle of Route 40

If you were looking for a quiet night out at the 40 Bar and Grille in North Franklin—a charming roadside watering hole just a stone's throw from the Washington County Fairgrounds—you probably weren't expecting a choreographed percussion performance featuring glass beer bottles and axe handles. Prosecutors say that in August 2024, the local "scenic route" turned into a high-speed collision of egos when about 30 members of the War Dogs motorcycle club allegedly decided the bar wasn't big enough for them and a rival Pagan. In what looked less like a bar fight and more like a very aggressive flash mob, surveillance footage caught the group pulling into the parking lot along the historic National Pike, marching inside, and allegedly turning a man named Jordan Henderson into a human punching bag for a solid ten minutes.

While the defense team insists this was just a "misunderstanding between gentlemen" that happened to involve a tactical hand signal and several blunt objects, the judge wasn't entirely sold on the "oops, we tripped and hit him with a bat" narrative. Despite the defense's best efforts to paint the melee as a spontaneous bout of "mutual combat," ten of the leather-clad enthusiasts are now officially scheduled for a very un-fun appearance in Washington County Common Pleas Court. They’ll be trading their "cuts" for court attire to face charges of rioting and aggravated assault, proving once and for all that while Route 40 is great for a Sunday cruise, it’s a terrible place to audition for a biker-themed remake of Fight Club.
